The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) has initiated several subsidy programmes, with focus on education, career development and social well-being for the Indian community.
Its chairman Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan said 10,000 undergraduates would receive a one-off education aid of RM2,000.
“This subsidy will be disbursed in phases from August,” he said, adding that it was also open to students of private higher learning institutions on a first come first served basis.
“Mitra will also disburse subsidy amounting to RM2.49mil to preschool children and has signed agreements with the first batch of 42 kindergartens with a total 1,035 children.
“Another sum of over RM5.095mil will be disbursed to the second batch of recipients involving 71 kindergartens and 2,123 children,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He also said a joint programme between Mitra and Weststar Aviation Services in aircraft maintenance had been launched for 100 Indian youth.
Applications would open from July 26 until Aug 30, Ramanan added.
He said those interested could also sign up the Drone Operations Technical Programme as well as the Data Services and Electrified Advancement Programme, which will also open for application on July 26. A programme for Tamil schools on refurbishing personal computer would be implemented next month, he said.
Ramanan added that for a start, the unit was targeting 527 schools nationwide.
“We have also launched the dialysis aid subsidy programme for some 9,000 Indians suffering from chronic kidney disease,” he said.
Each recipient would get RM9,600 in subsidy for a term of up to a year, beginning next month, he added.
